The new Uni year is here again! As summer finishes and the Autumn semester rolls in, the cynical energy of going back to Uni could be circling around. Let’s be honest, it’s so easy to just keep scrolling endlessly through each social media feeds or to just watch one more YouTube video, then another one, then another one. Fear not, the Share with Oscar team wants to share their insights for the Art of Motivation with 5 quick and easy ways to stay motivated this Uni year!
The Future
One of the easiest ways to stay motivated is to always have sight of your future and why you decided to apply for your course in the first place. Just think: this one assignment now, this degree now, will help me in the future quest of my dream job! Visualise yourself on graduation day, because we promise that day will come and you won’t have to do another essay again. Your own enthusiasm is a great motivator, so try to get excited and passionate about what you’re doing, because the more passion you feel, the more likely you are to be determined with it even if you’re face with obstacles.
Healthy balance
Stress is a pretty normal thing. You have that sense of panic and you don’t know where to begin but you don’t realise that the more you panic, the harder it is to get to work. As you go deeper into the semester and assessments start to build up, it’s extremely important to still allow yourself to destress and relax, have fun, go have a KitKat and take a break. It’s actually valuable to bribe yourself by setting clear goals and promising yourself to watch that new movie on Netflix everyone’s talking about. But avoid distractions until you get stuff done! It’s also worthwhile to switch your surroundings up sometimes, try studying in a different library, or using different coloured pens because new things are always exciting!
Don’t dwell on failure
Stop dwelling on failure and your past mistakes. When something is bothering you, we know that trying to get your mind off it is easier said than done, but making your mind go through the torture of replaying that negative thing over and over can actually be counterproductive. We’re not saying that reflecting on your failures is bad, in fact that could actually be much more helpful when turning it into motivation. But it’s when that reflection turns into brooding that it becomes a problem. Think about eating chocolate, having one or two is fine, it’s actually considered healthy, but have too many and you’ll feel sick. Moderation is key my friends, the toning of your reflection of failures is just important as your chocolate consumption.
Friends
So no one told you, life was gonna be this way, huh? Not even that episode of Friends when Rachel and Monica get competitive against the guys and bet the entire apartment. Find someone who will stay by your side and support you when you decide to do some crazy things and surround yourself with people who will motivate you to win. Keep your friends on the same page because friends are going to be the best thing that’s ever happened to you in uni. They’re a valuable source of support when you’re having trouble getting by on your own. Find the Joey to your Chandler, support each other’s dreams and always be there for one another!
Vision Board
They say visualisation is one of the most powerful mind exercises that our brains can do. Having that space where you’ve displayed all the things you want for the year actually helps bring it to life. When you create a vision board and look at it constantly, you essentially end up doing short visualisation exercises throughout the day. This helps you get closer and closer to your goals even, without you knowing. The popular book, ‘the secret’ says, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.” Basically, visualising your thoughts and how you feel on a board projects it into existence. So if oceans make you happy and you want to own a private island one day, then stick the ocean on your board and it will visually make you feel calmer to focus on things to get you to owning your private island one day! Check out LaurDiy’s DIY vision board to help achieve your 2019 goals so you can make your own motivational aesthetically pleasing vision board.
